Abstract:
This thesis investigates the implementation of a vision-based system for alerting the driver of road departures. A PC-based vision system is set up to capture images of the road ahead from a single forward facing camera. An algorithm is developed and implemented on the PC, which analyses the images and calculates the vehicle's lateral position. The system compares the vehicle's lateral position with a centered lateral position and when the two positions differ significantly the system will generate an alarm signal to the driver.
