The Zboard: Cost Reduction Through Software Emulation

Simon Gee

Abstract:
This thesis provides a look into the design process adopted in the course of developing the Zboard, a product aimed at the market niche of low cost set-top boxes.  A detailed look is provided into the design techniques needed to employ the L7200 into a given device, describing the means adopted in the implementation of various functional interfaces.  Furthermore, a detailed account on the development involved in the realisation of a software modem has been included.

Some corrective measures/improvements have also been suggested thereby ensuring the product will be ready when adopted commercially.
