Abstract:About the Author
Guitar pedals create sound effects by processing the audio signal from a guitar's pickups. Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has provided the ability to create guitar effects boards that are more cost effective and have greater functionality, than the traditional analog devices. Today both analog and digital implementations are sold as a certain type of effect(s). However there is no reason why the effect(s) on a DSP based guitar pedal can't be changed, as they are simply programs. This thesis project successfully built a generic DSP platform and software, where programmable effects could be downloaded over a serial line from a Personal Computer. The software was designed to provide user with the ability to edit, swap and write their own effects.
