Optical Control of Operation of Two and Three Port Devices
Rhys Philbrick
Abstract:
This thesis develops, builds and tests bistable logic and memory devices
as well as multistable memory devices based on amplifier circuits with
positive optical feedback. It designs these circuits while taking into
account the maximum operating frequencies, operational powers and number
of circuit elements in each device. The thesis then goes on to discuss
the potential for these devices to be used as basic circuit and memory
elements in optical computers and other optical data processing devices.
