Analysis of Rotor/Stator Transfer Functions Using Matlab

Student: Bo Hunter Dolman

Supervisor: Dr. Allan Walton

Category: Electrical Engineering Thesis Project

This thesis deals with the analysis of the frequency response characteristics of a synchronous machine in order to determine the time constants of the curve, and hence derive an equivalent circuit.

The operational inductance and numerical curve fitting techniques have generally been used in the past to determine an equivalent circuit, but this process is unable to uniquely define the field winding parameter of the machine.

The method outlined in this thesis uses both the operational inductance and the rotor:stator transfer function in order to uniquely define an equivalent circuit. In the analysis of these two sets of data an analytical technique is proposed that best captures the characteristics of the machines frequency response.
