Innovation Expo 2002

29th October - UQ Centre, St. Lucia Campus

Innovation Expo is a showcase of ideas and research.  For business, students and the public it is an opportunity to meet UQ's young innovators and discover the culmination of years of intensive research and study.

From robot soccer to solar powered cars; from virtual households to software set to revolutionise the way we live.  Innovation Expo is not only informative, it's a lot of fun as well.

The Vision of Innovation Expo

University is where we as a community raise our lawyers, historians, teachers, doctors, engineers, architects, leaders, poets and prophets.   It is where its scholars shape students, and its students shape our society.  This powerful and timeless process goes on day after day and year after year often unnoticed, perhaps forgotten by the very community that saw its potential and gave it life.

We at the School of Information Technology & Electrical Engineering (ITEE), like other Schools within the University of Queensland, are aware of our influence on our students, and of our students influence on the local and international community.  Innovation Expo 2002 (I-Expo 2002) is our annual public showcase, our shop window, for our final year undergraduate and some postgraduate students from the School's Electrical Engineering, Information Environments and Information Technology programmes.  I-Expo 2002 is where our capable and talented students communicate the depth of their knowledge, the innovation and creativity of their studious efforts, and their awareness of the impact of their work on society.

For school student     {Schools Register Here}

During the morning of I-Expo 2002 Brisbane school children are invited to meet over 260 graduating students of the School of ITEE and talk with them as they explain the fruits of their final year study and discover firsthand exactly what it's like to be a University student.  This contact with local school we believe is most important, it is in these moments that future computer scientists, IT specialists, and electrical engineers are born.

For the community

Later in the day our doors are open to the public and the rest of the UQ campus.  Student pride is at its highest during this time, never before have they had the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity, and inventiveness to their peers, friends and family.

For businesses

The evening proves to be the nervous high point of the day when guests from local, state, and national and international industry are invited to meet our students and examine their research and project work.  Students know from the experience of past Expo's that any one of these industry guests could be a potential employer or sponsor of future higher research, and after a long day of explaining their work at various intellectual levels the students still manage to engage onlookers and communicate their passion for their work.  Watch young graduating students communicating effectively and interacting confidently with captains of industry fills school staff with pride, as the years of educating, guiding and encouragement come to an end.

The day is topped off with speeches and prizes given by industry and project sponsors.

We at the University of Queensland's School of ITEE truly believe we are a Smart State, with smart young people, who will, of which we have no doubt, shape and mould our society.  At Innovation Expo 2002 this could not be more evident.
