Evaluating Transfer Capability with Optimal Power Flow Exhibitor: Owen Norris Supervisor: Zhao Dong Research Group: Complex and Intelligent Systems Industry Sector: Energy and Utilities This thesis aims to investigate power transfer capability computational methods and development of a transfer capability assessment program. The project also investigates optimisation of a power system to maximise the overall transfer capacity. The algorithms considered are simple point-to-point transfers as well as calculation using sensitivity analysis. Transfer capacity refers to the amount of electric power that can be passed through a power system from one place to another. This can be limited by a number of security constraints. To obtain an accurate value of the transfer capability of a system, contingencies need to be included.
