Integrated Floor Plan Producer (IFPP) Exhibitor: Han - Chou (Hank) Hsu Supervisor: Adam Postula Research Group: Embedded Systems Industry Sector: Manufacturing and Industrial Applications Floor plans are needed on many occasions and are used by many people, ranging from professionals like real estate agents and architects, to DIY home renovators. When floor plans are required but not available, having them drawn up is usually a long and expensive process. Multiple factors influence the cost and time associated with producing floor plans. Before they can be drawn, areal dimensions must first be taken. Since measurements are usually done manually using tape measures, repeat measurements can be required due to errors or omission of details. Then there is the wait for a skilled draftsman to draw up the floor plan. These procedures need experienced professionals, and can be both costly and time consuming. Our proposed system, Integrated Floor Plan Producer (IFPP), is intended to accelerate and simplify the creation of floor plan for existing buildings and large enclosures. The system integrates laser measuring equipment with proprietary computer-based data-processing software to create floor plans up to ten times faster than existing methods. It will be capable of drafting complex floor plans and will require only one operator. Our system aims to eliminate the hassle of measuring dimensions and drawing floor plans by hand, and to reduce the necessary equipments down to one piece of hardware and a laptop. ![]()
