ITEE Innovation Expo 2008 : Project DetailsWireless interaction with large displayStudent: Matthew RobsonSupervisor: Adam Postula Abstract: The use of a data projector or large screen in various applications have become wide spread. However in most circumstances one must still interact with the large display using only a mouse and keyboard. In many of these large display applications this interaction can be cumbersome and annoying to the user. In light of this problem the project “Wireless Interaction with a Large Display” was born.
This thesis project explores various alternative methods of interaction with large displays, with the majority of the project being focused on the use of a Nintendo Wii Remote to achieve a cost effective solution. The Nintendo Wii Remote is of particular relevance to this project as it possesses the capability to track multiple points simultaneously and connect via Bluetooth, along with being highly portable and quite cheap.
A simple graffiti test program has been developed in order to show the Wii Remote’s functionality when using it with a large display. This program has been targeted to be used by children and so interaction is of an intuitive touch screen type nature. The program gives the user a canvas upon which to draw lines of various colour and width, it also gives the user the ability to save and print the images drawn. Other programs have also been developed to show the Wii Remote’s multi user capabilities.
|
