ITEE Innovation Expo 2008 : Project DetailsIT Data Migration for Change Management Process (CEED)Student: Thomas ColborneSupervisor: Brian Lovell Abstract: This thesis details the procedures followed within the Matrix Data Migration Project (MDMP) to implement a data migration for an engineering change management process. The MDMP was part of the second phase of the Matrix Implementation Project (MIP) being undertaken at Australian Aerospace (AA). The main goal for the MDMP was to migrate all data pertaining to four aerospace programs currently at AA from their specific databases into the new Product Lifecycle Management System (PLMS), which had been chosen to be Enovia (Matrix). The migration included the minor goals of firstly exporting the data from the databases, manipulating the data into the required import format and lastly importing the data into Matrix. The proposed timeframe for the migration of all the programs data had not taken into account the amount of data to be migrated or the complexity of the customisations needed to be done to meet AA specifications. Due to delays in the MIP, the MDMP was redefined to include building of a basic test schema within the PLMS and the migration of all data pertaining to only one of the aerospace programs. This would then be used as a template migration for the remaining programs which would be done at a later date. The redefined goals were completed and will allow AA to migrate the data into the PLMS when the complete schema has been produced and to then replicate this procedure for the other programs quite simply. The project was a software implementation using scripts to manipulate the PLMS schema and to automatically export data from a Microsoft Access database, correctly format it then migrate it into the Matrix database. |
